Note: Ms. McDowell is currently working on a book about Laura Ingalls Wilder (“Little House on the Prairie”), who bought the famous Rocky Ridge Farm in Mansfield, MO in 1894. There, 800 Ben Davis and Missouri Pippin apple trees — all bought from Stark Bro’s Nurseries & Orchards Co. — had been planted by the previous owner. There are many references to pies made from these apples in Wilder’s famous books.
